Strickland Fund: Donate Online
Tuesday, 23 January 2007 21:37
U.S. Handcycling has recently created the Warren Strickland Fund and online donations.
Warren Strickland was a handcyclist who was seriously injured after being hit by a car while training near his Louisiana home last Fall. Warren lost his long battle on February 23, 2007. Strickland was a longtime contributor to the U.S. Handcycling website and was well known in the handcycling community.
The Warren Strickland fund was created for three reasons: 1) To establish a scholarship fund in Warren’s name to help new athletes participate in handcycling events (something Warren was always passionate about), 2) To help U.S. Handcycling create a “ghost bike” memorial to place at the site Warren was injured and create awareness about sharing the road, and 3) To create a safety awareness program for handcyclists and motorists.
The fund is accessible through the U.S. Handcycling website, and donations are accepted directly, online through a secure server at active.com.
You can also read more about Warren through this post, including some great comments from his many supporters.
